Professor Mariana Araujo Lamego

Mariana Araujo Lamego is Associate Professor in the Department of Human Geography and the Postgraduate Program in Geography at the Institute of Geography of the State University of Rio de Janeiro. She graduated in Geography from the State University of Rio de Janeiro with an undergraduate degree (2004) and a master’s degree (2006) and was awarded her PhD in Geography at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2010).
She was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Geography at Royal Holloway University in London with a scholarship granted by the British Academy in the first semester of 2023. She currently coordinates the Center for Studies and Research on Space and Culture (NEPEC). She is editor of Revista Espaço e Cultura. She carries out research in the field of disciplinary history with an emphasis on the role played by women geographers, multilingualism, and location policies for international geography conferences.
During their IAS Fellowship, Professor Lamego is collaborating with Professor Heike Jöns from the Department of Geography and Environment.
