Andrey V. Ivanov (PhD, Yale University, 2012) is an associate professor of history at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. Aside from his faculty appointment in the University of Wisconsin System, Dr. Ivanov also held visiting professor or researcher appointments at Notre Dame, Boston College, the University of Chicago Morris Fishbein Center for the History of Science, and Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute.
He specializes in the intellectual, cultural, and social history of Eastern Europe and the Russian Empire. His most recent book, titled A Spiritual Revolution: The Impact of Reformation and Enlightenment in Orthodox Russia 1700-1836 has won the 2021 Marc Raeff Prize and the 2021 Early Slavic Studies book prizes. He is currently working on the comprehensive biography of Ukraine’s prolific enlightener, scientist, and political philosopher, Archbishop Feofan Prokopovych, investigating the role of early modern physics and religion in the archbishop’s foundations of Russia’s empire.
During their IAS Fellowship, Dr Ivanov is collaborating with Dr Alexandre Zagoskin from the School of Science.
