Dr Sara Bonati

Dr Sara Bonati is an assistant professor in Human Geography in the Department of Education at the University of Genoa (Italy). She holds a Ph.D. in Human and Physical Geography from the Veneto Doctoral School in Historical, Geographical and Anthropological Studies, University of Padova (Italy), and has an M.Sc. in International Relations and Safeguarding of Human Rights and Geography and Territorial Processes.
Sara worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Florence (2017-2022) and as a visiting researcher at the CEG (Centre for Geographical Studies) at the University of Lisbon (2012-2014). Since 2014 she has been an associate researcher for the CIERL (Research Centre for Regional and Local Studies) at the University of Madeira. Sara is also a member of the editorial board of the Translocal journal promoted by the centre and for the Rivista Geografica Italiana (Società di Studi Geografici) and has coordinated the editorial board of the edited volume “(Dis)memory of Disasters: An Interdisciplinary Approach” (2015). Her research interests include climate change governance, disaster risk reduction, vulnerable and resilient landscapes, island studies, urban political ecology, and environmental-social justice. She teaches courses in Social Geography, Geography of Communication, Environmental Geography and Climate Change.
During their IAS Fellowship, Dr Bonati is collaborating with Dr Monia Del Pinto from the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering.
