IAS Residential Fellow
Federal University of São Carlos
Dr Freire is currently Reader at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Brazil. Before joining the department of mathematics at UFSCar, he was a Reader at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC), a 15 years old university located in the ABC region of the Great São Paulo, where he was elected or appointed for several committees and boards, such as member of the Senatus Academicus (2011-2018) and Vice-Provost for Research (2015-2018). He also created and established an office for research integrity affairs at UFABC (2015-2018).
In the national scenario, he was an organiser during many years of the largest Brazilian congress of applied mathematics (2009-2018) and was also elected Vice-President for the Brazilian Society for Computational and Applied Mathematics (2016-2017). He was also visiting professor at the department of geometry and mathematical physics of the Silesian University in Opava (Czech Republic) in 2018.
Dr Freire earned his PhD in Applied Mathematics at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil, in 2008. His thesis was concerned with symmetries of differential equations and since then he has worked in symmetries of differential equations and applications in mathematical physics and biomathematics. More recently, his main scientific interests are on qualitative aspects of differential equations, integrability, and geometric aspects of certain differential equations.
