Professor Valeriy O. Yampol's'kyy was born on June 14, 1946 in Kharkiv. He graduated from Kharkiv. University (1967). Since 1969 he has been working at the Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (since 2000 he has been the head of the department).

His scientific works are in the field of solid state radiophysics and theoretical physics. He discovered and investigated a number of new electronic phenomena in metals, metal films, and hard metals. and layered semiconductors, graphene.
