Creating a balanced plate
The Eatwell Guide outlines recommendations for eating healthily and achieving a balanced diet.
The Guide is published by the UK Government and is used by a range of organisations, including the NHS, to help us enjoy a healthy balanced diet.
It divides food into five groups and explains how much of each we should eat:
- Fruit and vegetables
- “Starchy” foods like bread, rice and pasta
- Protein rich foods like including beans, pulses, fish and eggs
- Dairy and alternatives
- Oils and spreads
It also includes recommendations for drinks and food that are high in fat, sugar and salt.
By following the Eatwell Guide, we can make our diet healthier and more sustainable.
My tasty, balanced plate
Who’s hungry?!
This activity gives you the chance to get hands on and serve up a tasty dish.
You will have one minute to put as many food pictures on the right parts of the Eatwell plate as you can. When your time is up, we will see how you did and talk you through the Eatwell Guide.
Then, you’ll have a chance to make your own your healthy, balanced plate. Afterwards, you can take it home with you or add it to our stunning Plate Wall of Fame.
What will your balanced plate look like?
