The next event of the series will take place on Wednesday 24 January, covering the following topics:
- How can we manage driver sleepiness? A career in collaboration – Professor Ashleigh Filtness, School of Design and Creative Arts
Sleepiness management is a complex issue within the Transport Human Factors domain. Professor Filtness’ lecture will draw on 16 years of research work in this area, undertaken with a range of amazing collaborators, to journey through what we do and don’t know about driver sleepiness.
- SHIFTing Gears to improve health: Can we support professional drivers to sit less and move more? – Professor Stacy Clemes, School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences
Professor Stacy Clemes’ lecture will focus on her impactful research on professional drivers. She will provide an overview of the health inequalities experienced by HGV drivers – an essential, yet under-served, occupational group in terms of health promotion efforts. She will describe the development, evaluation and implementation of the SHIFT programme, and her ongoing work which aims to change policy to create healthier working environments and cultures for all professional drivers – leading to improvements in drivers’ health and road safety.
All lectures begin at 5pm and take place in EHB110b, Edward Herbert Building, with registration from 4.30pm. For more information about the venue, including photographs, view the access guide for EHB on AccessAble.
The Professors will be available for questions and further discussion at a drinks reception after the lectures.
