Still from Leopoldstadt

National Theatre Live returns to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ

Screenings of three National Theatre plays will be shown at Cope Auditorium from 27 January.

NT Live is an opportunity for people to access top-quality London productions in their local area and at a fraction of the cost. NT Live screenings are either recorded live and screened at a later date or broadcast live on the night.

This semester the following NT Live productions will be on offer:

Leopoldstadt is a new play from Tom Stoppard, directed by Patrick Marber, and centres around the stories of Austrian-Jewish families; Leopoldstadt is the name of the old Jewish quarter in Vienna. It is inspired by Stoppard’s own family history and spans over 50 years from the turn of the century to the Second World War. The Independent gave it five stars, describing it as a ‘masterpiece’.

Tom Stoppard is an Academy and Tony-award winning writer, best known for his screenplay Shakespeare in Love. Leopoldstadt won ‘Best New Play’ at the 2020 Olivier Awards. Its limited re-run at the Wyndham Theatre in London (where this screening was recorded live) finished in October 2021 so the NT Live screening is the only chance to see the play now.

Please note that the certificate for Leopoldstadt is12A.

The Belle Sauvage is a stage adaptation of Phillip Pullman’s first Book of Dust, set 12 years before the well-known His Dark Materials trilogy.

Shakespeare’s Henry V stars Kit Harrington from Game of Thrones and explores nationalism, war and the psychology of power.

Tickets are £10 for staff and members of the public and £5 for students, which makes these the cheapest NT Live screenings in the area. You can book your tickets in advance online, or pay on the door using cash or card (subject to availability).

National Theatre Live screenings are brought to you by LU Arts and Flix Student Run Cinema
