The fellowship will support her research into aero gas turbine combustors that will help to decarbonise air travel whilst maintaining the reliability and operability standards we currently have. Dr Gardner will be based in the National Centre for Combustion and Aerothermal Technology (NCCAT) on campus for the next two years and this project has the potential to help the air travel industry to meet its target of reducing emissions by 2050.

The Industrial Fellowship scheme aims to support mid-career academics and industrialists and encourages them to undertake collaborative research.

On this appointment, Cat said: “I am absolutely delighted to be awarded a prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Research Fellowship. I am privileged to be based at NCCAT which has been designed to help meet the net-zero carbon challenge and look forward to working with experienced research professionals and talented students. This opportunity will help further strengthen collaborative links between academia and industry in a priority area for the UK aerospace sector.”
