Final year students were asked to produce a short video and 100-word summary to showcase the commercial potential of a project and these were reviewed by an influential panel of judges from companies including IBM iX, Alexander McQueen and Unilever. The awards were divided into four categories – Design, Textiles, Fine Art and Graphics.
Design
The overall winner of the Enterprise Award was Joseph Bentley for their project, REACT – an emergency system for stab wound management.
Each industry judge also chose a project as a ‘one to watch’ and these are as follows:
- Miles Bennett - Rhino (awarded by Unilever)
- Samantha Tung - Reverse (awarded by Smallfry)
- Megan Lincoln - SONA (awarded by IBM iX)
Textiles
The overall winner of the Enterprise Award was Rasha Khoyi for their project, DRIP – a textile investigation that reimagines conventional geometry and shapes in existing fashion tropes, drawing on the unpredictability of viscous liquid forms.
Each industry judge also chose a ‘one to watch’ project:
- Sophie Ison-Dawson – Regalia (awarded by Alexander McQueen)
- Rachel Blackmore – Jewellery Box (awarded by Sage Automotive Interiors)
- Florence Sargent – The Garden of Ephesus (awarded by Daniel Heath)
Fine Art
The overall winner was Hannah Day for their project, Transference: A Journal of Attachments which focuses on perceptions and experiences in therapy.
The ‘one to watch’ projects chosen by the industry judges are as follows:
- Eva Wan – (Not) part of the furniture (awarded by Wendy Mayer)
- Monica Popham - Mi Gran Piñón (awarded by Colette Griffin)
Graphics
The overall winner was Zoe Adams for their project, Persil Picked.
The ‘one to watch’ projects chosen by the industry judges are as follows:
- Kiran Kaur – POWHER (awarded by Anagram)
- Sophie Routledge – Cork Suckers (awarded by Above+Beyond)
- Zoe Adams – Persil Picked (awarded by Lucozade Ribena Suntory)
Three alumni, Ross Kemp, Amy Ellis and Flora MacLeod also gave industry talks as part of the Enterprise Awards events.
Amy graduated from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ in 2010 with a BA in Printed Textiles and worked for many years at Paul Smith before starting up her own business. She spoke about her career journey and gave tips for working in the industry.
Flora is a Design Lead for IBM iX. She graduated with a BSc in Industrial Design & Ergonomics in 2015 and has retained a close connection with the School. She gave insight into her experience in the industry, focusing on user research and introduced some fundamental concepts to graduates starting out with their careers.
Ross Kemp spoke about his company ASAP Watercrafts, born out of his final year project in Industrial Design. He spoke about how he used The Studio to help make his ideas a reality.
