University presents ‘Building an Innovation Community’ as part of Leicester Innovation Week

The University’s distinctive innovation and entrepreneurial support for businesses of all sizes is a key feature in a packed programme of events from 21 to 26 June, to showcase Leicester and Leicestershire as a hub of innovation.

Now in its fourth year, Leicester Innovation Week offers a wealth of opportunities for businesses, universities and business support organisations to work together. During the week there will be a series of webinar events to inspire and catalyse local partners with shared interests in driving innovation and economic growth. All events are free to attend.

Diverse topics include the zero-carbon challenge for small businesses, rebuilding the image of Leicester’s fashion sector, redesigning the post-pandemic High Street, and funding for micro-businesses.

The University will deliver two key events:

Building an Innovation Community
Tuesday 22 June, 9am-10am

This event will explore the University’s research strengths and strategic developments and how they translate into a comprehensive programme of support, guidance and facilities to enable business growth and innovative products and services. This event is ideal for academics, graduates and students as well as established businesses, individuals who want to start a business, and organisations interested in creating and growing a business with innovation at its heart.

Your competitors are adapting, are you?
Friday 25 June, 10am-11.45am

Hosted by Leicester Innovation Hub, this event brings together the expertise of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, University of Leicester, De Montfort University, and the Federation of Small Businesses to highlight how industry-university collaborations enable businesses to stay ahead of the competition through innovation.

The experiences of two of the University’s high potential, multi-award-winning companies which were launched from its incubator on the Science and Enterprise Park, LUSEP, will feature in an Innovation Showcase on Wednesday 23 June, from 2pm-3pm.

Academic spinout and global flood forecasting pioneers Previsico, and graduate startup and 3D printed children’s prosthetics manufacturer ExpHand Prosthetics will be showcased in this event which includes keynote speeches from Dr Nik Kotecha OBE, Morningside Pharmaceuticals Chairman and Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership Board Director; Dr Luke Evans, MP for Hinckley and Bosworth and Professor Fiona Murray CBE, from the MIT Sloan School of Business. Professor Murray has spearheaded MIT’s pioneering Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program Pilot - a multi-stakeholder approach to accelerating innovation-driven entrepreneurship in Leicestershire.
