Hansson secures brave bronze in Abu Dhabi

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s Louise Hansson added to her personal medal haul at the 2021 FINA World Championships with a fine third-place finish in the Women’s 50m Backstroke.

The Sweden international has been in fantastic form throughout the meet, with her time of 25.86 enough to add another medal to her growing tally.

The bronze medal win added to her previous superb performances in the Women’s 200m Medley Relay and the Women’s 100m Backstroke respectively.

Hansson – who is coached by the University’s Ian Hulme – qualified fastest for the final but was edged out in a competitive field to Canada duo Margaret MacNeil (25.27 – a new world record), and Kylie Masse (25.62).

Elsewhere, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s Daniel Wiffen produced an unbelievable swim to slice 16 seconds off the Irish Record to qualify sixth fastest for the final of the Men’s 1500m Freestyle.

Wiffen – coached by Andi Manley – clocked 14:32.13 and will now set his sights on a potential podium finish in tomorrow’s event (2:06pm GMT).
