º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ to host key British Cycling events

British Cycling’s 2021 youth and junior road season will once again place º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ on the map as the University has been chosen as a host venue for three key events.

The Youth National Circuit Series event will come to campus on May 31st, 2021 and will see some of the UK’s best young talent battle it out during an action-packed day of racing.

Earlier in the month, on 8th May 2021, the University will also host both the Junior Men’s National Road Series and the Junior Women’s National Road Series, held across Leicestershire’s countryside.

The events will take place under the ‘º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Cycling Festival’ programme and present a period of excitement for º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ cycling.

Dr David Nichols, Cycling Programme Manager, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, explained:

“The addition of both junior men’s and women’s races to our national youth circuit series is a fantastic reflection of the progress our cycling programme has made in what has been an exceptionally challenging year in both sport and education.

“I am excited to welcome some of the most talented young cyclists to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ for top-class racing around our campus and surrounding Leicestershire countryside. These events are symbolic of our belief that education and elite cycling should not be a choice.”

British Cycling Head of Sport and Major Events, Jonathan Day, added:

“Many of the sport’s biggest names have cut their teeth in our youth and junior series, and their continued success on the biggest stages must be a real inspiration to the young riders vying to follow in their footsteps.

“We are pleased to be able to offer an increase in the number of rounds in the Youth Circuit Series and Junior Women’s National Road Series for 2021, and as ever we are thankful to all of the event organisers and clubs who make the series possible.

“We know that this year has been a difficult and frustrating one for many young riders, but we are working hard to enable a return of road racing in early-2021 and look forward to welcoming the riders back to the start line.”

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ was due to hold similar events in 2020 which were unfortunately cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
