Each year, LU Arts awards scholarships to students at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ with exceptional talent in a particular art form.
As part of their scholarships, the recipients are awarded a cash prize and a tailored package of tuition or mentoring to develop their skills and knowledge further. As part of this, they are encouraged to organise and participate in activities and events throughout the academic year relating to their discipline.
Five of the students who have been awarded scholarships this year are instrumental and choral scholars, and they will be showcasing their abilities at this lunchtime concert. They will be covering work from the likes of Mozart (Voi che sapete), Ernest Sachse (Concertino in Bb Major), Camille Saint-Saens (The Swan) and Vivaldi (Qui Sedes ad Dexteram).
The students performing are as follows:
- Aidan Rainbird-Early (Cello)
- Alex Marner (Violin)
- Isobel Lawson (Choral)
- Lafite Lo (Trombone)
- Lisa Bradburn (Choral)
Director of LU Arts Nick Slater commented: “The Scholars Recital is always a real highlight of the arts calendar, not only because of the quality of the musicians but also because of the variety of music and instruments you get to hear. It is a true celebration of the talented musicians amongst º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ students.”
Scholar Aidan Rainbird-Early added: "I've really enjoyed working on these pieces this year and focusing on improving as a musician and as a performer. It's also been a great diversion from my degree and has allowed me to use a different part of my brain. I'm looking forward to playing at the scholar's recital as well as hearing all the work that the other scholars have done."
It commences at 12.45pm on Thursday 19 March, at Emmanuel Church in º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and is part of the church’s regular programme of lunchtime concerts. Students, staff and members of the public are all welcome and admission is free, but donations will be accepted to the church. A light lunch will be available prior to the concert from 12pm.
