SURVEY: Struggled to buy eggs and flour during COVID-19? Experts investigating the effects of shortages want to know

A short anonymous research questionnaire on experiences with egg and wheat flour shortages during COVID-19 has been launched as part of a º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ research project.

PhD student Hana Trollman, of the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, is asking for people to take part in the survey as she is investigating the effects of shortages on nutrition and food waste.

Hana explained: “Not only our experience of the Covid-19 pandemic, but with climate change and political situations such as Brexit, related impacts on food supply chains may become a more regular occurrence.

“It is therefore important to understand the effects on consumer health as well as related environmental issues such as food waste to inform mitigation strategies.”

The survey and project are in collaboration with º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ alumnus Dr Sandeep Jagtap, who now works at the University of Lincoln.

The researchers are aiming to publish the results from the project later this year; they then hope to seek funding to expand the research.

The survey can be found online here.
