The lunchtime event – attended by representatives from each of the shortlisted projects – was hosted by Professor Steve Rothberg, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research).
The Awards recognise the breadth of excellent research undertaken across both the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and London campuses.
The theme of this round of the Awards was Open Research, and the five shortlisted finalists chose to work in this way, freely sharing their methodology, resources, data or software to stimulate wider dialogue and collaboration – enhancing their work’s impact.
From a strong field of contenders, the winners were Dr Steven Firth and Professor Tarek Hassan from the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering for the collaborative REFIT project and open access REFIT Smart Home dataset.
Professor Steve Rothberg says: “I was very pleased to be able to gather together our finalists and winning team to congratulate them all. It’s a privilege to be working alongside such innovative and talented colleagues.
“We are now accepting nominations for the Spring 2020 Awards.
“Our theme this time is Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). Nominated projects – from any academic discipline at the University – must explore specific EDI-related issues or interventions, or promote inclusivity within the research or other communities.
“Nominations should be made via ADRs before Thursday 30 January. I look forward to meeting our next group of finalists.”
