The award, sponsored by L.B. Foster, celebrates students that are able to apply multiple areas of engineering to create something exceptional.

Guy’s submission was the ‘Design and Build Chess Playing Robot’. The automated robot considers complex chess moves as it plays, impressing the judges and earning Guy the £1,000 prize money.

Dr Mark Aston, the Chief Technical Officer at L.B. Foster said: “It demonstrates a clarity of thought as well as recognition of the potential commercial opportunities.”

Guy beat three other finalists including º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ alumni Leah Edwards and Mathus Thongkerd.

On winning he said: “I'm very proud of what I have achieved, and it was great to have been recognised for my hard work. I hope this award will lead to some great career opportunities in engineering.”
