º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Professor publishes book on sports economics

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Professor Paul Downward has published The SAGE Handbook of Sports Economics.

The book includes contributions from 54 established and emerging scholars, handpicked by Professor Downward and a team of well-respected, international editors.

The goal for the publication of this book was to provide the next generation of researchers and a wider community of students with accessible and up to date information on the discussions dominating the sector. These include the role of media in team sports and the social capital impacts from sports participation.

On publishing the book Professor Downward said: “I am pleased that the book is now completed and I hope that it informs and develops the insights of future researchers and students who are interested in how economics is essential to understanding the development and impact of sport in society.”

Professor Downward is an active researcher in sports economics and was an integral part of its development as a sub-discipline of economics, both in the UK and internationally. He is also the founding member of the Journal of Sport Economics and previously held the role of president of the European Sports Economics Association.

The book can be purchased online from SAGE.
