Start your festivities by singing along to carols at the University’s Christmas Choir Concert

Staff, students and members of the local community are invited to the University’s Christmas Choir Concert on Wednesday 4 December. Bring your voices, your friends and don’t forget a festive spirit too!

The group will sing Antonio Vivaldi’s ever-popular Gloria – which was originally written around 1715 for the Ospedale della Pieta choir in Venice.

A lively and energetic piece, with beautifully sung solos featured throughout, it is a familiar piece with singers and audiences alike.

This year, one of the soloists will be a student at the University who has recently been awarded an LU Art scholarship for the academic year.

Isobel Lawson – who studies Geography – has years of experience singing in various choirs and has played a significant part in various creative societies at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ during her time here so far, including Stage Society.

More information about Isobel, including other students who have been awarded the LU Arts’ scholarships for 2019/20, can be found here.

Festive refreshments will be served during the interval and in the second half the audience can look forward to carols by Berlioz, Rutter, Walton and many more. There will be opportunities for audience participation with some popular seasonal music too!

Choir conductor Eleanor Graff-Baker commented: “I am delighted that Isobel will be with us. She makes a lovely sound and I’m particularly impressed as I know she is fitting this into her very busy schedule as director of “Kiss me Kate” due to be performed only two days later!

“It’s always good to welcome students to our activities and I very much hope that there will be more opportunities for us to work together in the future.”

The performance will commence from 7.30pm and take place in the Cope Auditorium at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, and refreshments will be available on the night.

Tickets cost £5 for students and £7 to the general public and can be booked online in advance here. Tickets will also be available on the door (subject to availability).
