The event will take place in the School of Science and run from 12 – 14 September.
The event aims to explore the connections between Geometry and its applications in Modelling, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D printing and will feature renowned international scientists.
The IAS is delighted to welcome three visiting fellows to the event:
- Dr Oliver Barrowclough (SINTEF Digital, Oslo) who will explain the applications of spline geometry in 3D printing;
- Dr Laurent Busé (INRIA Sophia Antipolis, Nice) who will provide a lecture about Bézier curves and surfaces in CAD; and
- Dr Carlotta Giannelli (University of Florence) who will explore applications of rational moving frames in CAD.
A number of other academic scholars and researchers from the industry will also be attending the event to give talks. These include Dr Manuel Cresciani from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, Dr Heidi Dahl (Sintef, Oslo), Dr Ioannis Ivrissimtzis (Durham University), Clemens Laroche (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), Professor Glen Mullineux (University of Bath), Dr Malcolm Sabin (Numerical Geometry Lt) and Nelly Villamizar (Swansea University).
Geometry is one of the Institute’s semester themes and is led by Dr Hamid Ahmadinezhad, Lecturer in Mathematics, who is based in the University’s Mathematical Sciences department.
The theme will focus on geometry as a central pillar of modern science, with applications ranging from within mathematics and theoretical science to geometric design and security.
