The former American wheelchair racer, who is now an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School and an attending physician at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, will be at the University on Wednesday 31 January.
Dr Blauwet will present ‘More than just a game: the public health impact of sport and physical activity for people with a disability’; the first of the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM) 2018 public lectures.
According to the World Health Organisation, up to 15-20% of the global population are individuals with an impairment. The lecture will promote the idea that para sport should be seen as a tool not only for elite competitive opportunities, but also to enhance and enrich opportunities for all individuals with an impairment to lead healthy lifestyles.
An event spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to welcome Dr Cheri Blauwet to the University for what will be an insightful and inspiring talk that follows on nicely from some of the work being carried out by the University’s Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport.”
The lecture will start at 6pm in room U0.05 in the Brockington Building. It is free to attend and refreshments will be provided. To reserve your seat, email Alison Stanley at a.stanley@lboro.ac.uk
