The awards, known as the THELMAs, celebrate the higher education sector’s leadership, management, financial and business skills, and showcase extraordinary innovation, teamwork and commercial acumen.
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Leadership and Management Team, Outstanding Marketing/Communications Team, Workplace of the Year, Outstanding Student Services Team and Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year categories.
The nomination in the Outstanding Leadership and Management Team category recognises the work of the senior leadership team and their strong and collaborative efforts to deliver the ambitious Building Excellence Strategy.
The shortlisting in the Outstanding Marketing/Communications Team category acknowledges the dedication of Marketing and Advancement and the reel of successful campaigns it has led such as the prospective student Good Luck Cards and the record-breaking stem register recruitment-drive Spit Happens.
The nomination for Workplace of the Year highlights the University’s ethos of placing people firmly at its heart with investing in staff as a core objective. It also recognises the success of the Excellence100 recruitment campaign, which has seen º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ harness the talent of existing academic staff and recruit new stars.
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s Student Services has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Student Services Team category for its work to combat sexual violence and increase understanding of consent. The team has trained more than 100 staff in responding to disclosure of sexual violence, launched online resources for victims and worked with the Students’ Union to set out clear reporting procedures and create a consent workshop.
And finally, the Exercise Guidelines for Adults with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) project – which produced international spinal cord-specific exercise guidelines based on gold-standard practices – has been successful in the Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year category.
It is recognised as a collaborative project between º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and the University of British Columbia and was a nomination on behalf of the International SCI Exercise Guideline project team, which involves 23 national and international institutions.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Allison commented: “I am delighted that º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ has been shortlisted for no less than five THELMAs. This reflects the extraordinary hard work and outstanding commitment of my colleagues across both º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ campuses. Most importantly, the nominations acknowledge the way in which different parts of the University work loosely together to realise our high level of ambition.”
The THEMLAs ceremony will take place on 21 June at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. There are 15 categories in total this year and 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the awards.
