The IDEA was founded in 1980 and described as ‘the largest and most eagerly anticipated annual awards’, with previous winners adding to the permanent collection at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, USA.
The jury – which consists of numerous world-renowned designers and educators – evaluate products across 20 categories which include Automotive and Transportation, Medical and Health, and Service Design.
Previous winners include the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Dr Dre wireless headphones and the Nike+ Fuel Band.
Commenting on his two-year appointment to the jury, Dr Mark Evans, a Reader in Industrial Design from the Design School, said: “It is an honour to be nominated as a member of the IDEA jury, and a privilege to be in a position to acknowledge the highest achievements of the profession that combine ingenuity, functionality and beauty to enhance our everyday lives.”
The 2018 IDEA award winners will be announced at the ceremony on 19 September 2018 at the IDSA International Design Conference.
