British Council India 70th Anniversary scholars to study at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is set to welcome two students who have secured a prestigious British Council scholarship.

To mark its 70th anniversary in India, British Council – the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities – has established a new scholarship scheme for Indian women to study a one-year master’s programme in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects at a UK university.

It was recently announced that 100 women from across India have been awarded British Council 70th Anniversary Scholarships at 44 British universities, two of which will be joining º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ for the 2018/19 academic year. Sayali Avinash Chavan will study MSc Advanced Computer Science, and Saloni Sharma will study MSc Advanced Physics.

Robin Reeves, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s Regional Manager for South Asia, International Office said: “We are delighted to be part of the British Council’s India scholarship initiative. This provides a fantastic opportunity for STEM students to benefit from our award-winning student experience and facilities and in particular the recently opened STEMLab.

“The University continues to attract an increasing number of Indian students each year who choose to study a range of subject areas, including STEM-related courses. We look forward to welcoming Sayali and Saloni to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ in September.”

Alan Gemmell OBE, Director India, British Council said, “We’ve been inspired by India every day of the last 70 years – by its artists, students, and its teachers. We want to share the stories of the great things we’ve done together, tell new stories, and inspire millions of young people to develop connections for the next 70 years.

“The women we’ve selected to be our 70th Anniversary Scholars will be the ambassadors for these ambitions. They’ll also be fixing global problems from climate change to drug discovery all the while building the societies we all will want to live in.”
