The award was in recognition of the ‘Transforming our Leadership’ programme, set up by the partners to develop inspirational leaders for Anglian Water, one of eastern England’s largest employers.
The two-year training programme involved 160 staff at the company and covered high performance environments and teams; change and transformation; personal resilience; innovation and collaboration; commercial acumen; and organisational resilience.
It was delivered in partnership with Lane4 and the Executive Education team at the University’s School of Business and Economics.
Lane4 drew on insights and scenarios from elite environments as the context for learning, and partnered with the School of Business and Economics to deliver a series of practical, innovative and experiential workshops, taking people outside their comfort zones and incorporating activities such as hammer throwing and choral singing.
Leadership exchanges formed an important innovation in the programme too. Delegates on the programme visited a wide variety of organisations to learn from their approach, including Waitrose, Jaguar Land Rover, Twinings and Unipart.
Leaders have responded favourably to the programme, with 100% of delegates saying they would recommend the programme. Results show that figures for retention, sickness and accident frequency have all improved and Anglian in 2016-17 enjoyed its most successful year yet for factors including customer service and leakage rate.
Vicki Unwin Business development Manager School of Business and Economics, said: "To have been nominated for this Personnel Today award and now to have won it is absolutely brilliant, and a real confirmation of the dedication and hard work that everyone put into designing and delivering the programme – a real partnership with Lane4 and the Leadership team at Anglian Water.
"The experiential content for this innovative programme drew on expertise from across the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ campus including Sport, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Students’ Union and The Studio, as well as academics from the School of Business and Economics. We are all thrilled that Anglian Water’s Transforming our Leadership programme has been recognised in this way."
Peter Simpson, CEO, Anglian Water, added: “Transforming our Leadership has equipped our leaders to deal with the intense change taking place in our industry. I’ve never seen a development programme that’s had so much impact. It’s really been truly impressive.”
