For services to the Monarch of the Commonwealth, 2009 honorary graduate Jennifer, Lady Gretton JP, has been awarded a DCVO, Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. Lady Gretton is the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire and her award is in recognition of her distinguished personal service to Her Majesty.
Entrepreneur and philanthropist Dame Vera Stephanie Shirley, a 1991 honorary graduate of the University has been recognised for her services to the IT Industry and Philanthropy with a CH, Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour.
Professor Jonathan Gershuny who works at the University of Oxford has been awarded a CBE for his outstanding services to Social Sciences and Sociology. Professor Gershuny graduated from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ in 1971 with a Social Sciences degree.
For his services to higher education, Sheffield Hallam’s Head of Law and Criminology, Sital Dhillon, receives an OBE. Sital studied Economics and Social History at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, graduating in 1982.
Also being awarded an OBE is British Swimming Head Coach, William Furniss. The PE and Sports Science 1994 alumnus is awarded his Order of the British Empire for services to swimming.
OBE recipient and 1984 Economics alumnus, Chandrakant Kataria works as the Group Chief Executive of the East Midlands Housing Group. He is recognised for his excellent service to Housing in the East Midlands.
Recognised with an MBE, is 2009 Air Transport Management alumnus, Babak Erfani. Babak is awarded for his services to Network Rail and Diversity in Transport. He is the founder and Chairman of “Archway”, the LGBT employee network at Network Rail alongside his job as Area Project Manager on the Crossrail Programme.
Also awarded an MBE is recent º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Sport Hall of Fame inductee and 1992 Sports Science alumnus, Danny Kerry. Having led the GB women’s Hockey team to gold at Rio 2016 and bronze at London 2012, Danny’s MBE is awarded for his services to women’s Hockey.
