A new book which explores health and medicine in early modern England has been published by a º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ academic.

Written by Dr Sara Read from the School of Arts, English and DramaMaladies & Medicine: Exploring Health & Healing 1540-1740 looks at how ordinary people coped with diseases and turbulent health issues in the times before the NHS and modern medicine.

It includes case studies, personal anecdotes and even court records, making it a fascinating illustration of life 400 years ago.

The book will be officially launched at the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ London campus on 9 August.

At the event you will have an opportunity to meet Dr Read and co-author Dr Jennifer Evans, as well as the chance to pick up a signed copy of the book at a discounted price.

You can book your place at the launch event here using the password ‘earthworms’. The book can be pre-ordered at the Pen & Sword website.

Dr Read is also the author of Maids, Wives, Widows: Exploring Early Modern Women’s Lives, and with Dr Jennifer Evans runs the Early Modern Medicine blog.
