º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ London invites graduates to take 'The Big Step'

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ London has announced a new employability programme for unemployed and underemployed graduates in four key growth areas in East London.

Delivered in partnership with the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), ‘The Big Step’ is a comprehensive four-day programme for graduates from the boroughs of Newham, Hackney, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets.

It offers participants an opportunity to identify their strengths and reflect on their experiences; with access to careers professionals and business advisors for personalised guidance and support.

Taking place on April 3, 4 and 25, with a further follow-up session, both University staff and external speakers will cover topics including positive thinking and the significance of mindset and resilience in career development.

Participants will also take part in practical networking exercises with employers, including Here East, NatWest and BT Sport, and will be given the opportunity to apply for a 100% Inspiring Success scholarship to study a master’s programme at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ London.

The scholarships, now in their third year, are jointly funded by º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ London and the LLDC.

Jasjoot Mudhar and Paul Ntulila are two successful candidates who have received the scholarship.

Jasjoot graduated with an MSc in Internet Media Clouds with Business. Speaking about his experience, he said: “The Inspiring Success scholarship gave me an opportunity to analyse myself in terms of strengths and skills. It enabled me to think positively and opened a door of opportunity.”

Paul started his MSc in Diplomacy, Statecraft and Foreign Policy in September 2016 and is º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ London’s first deaf student. He commented: “The experience has been a dream come true. I have faced a lot of barriers in my life, which could lead people to think that deaf people are less able, but this is a brilliant example to show others that deaf people are also capable of achieving great things.”

Professor Mike Caine, Dean at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ London, said: “Following the life-changing impacts we’ve seen as a result of Inspiring Success, The Big Step will further support graduates in reaching their future career goals, whether through postgraduate study or professional career guidance.”
