Senior industrial engineers join º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s teaching staff
Dr Martin Goosey (Visiting Professor in Sustainable Electronics Manufacturing from MTG Research Ltd) and Dr David Williams (Visiting Professor in Sustainable Building Physics from Parsons Brinckerhoff) join the University for the next three years and represent two of 28 professorships supported nationally by the RAEng.
The RAEng scheme provides financial support for experienced industrial engineers to deliver face-to-face teaching and mentoring at a host institution for three years. Engineering undergraduates benefit from an enhanced understanding of the role of engineering and the way it is practised, along with its challenges and demands.
The programme also enables the engineers to contribute to postgraduate teaching and curriculum development, to continue the impact of the scheme beyond the length of the appointment.
Both appointments build on existing relationships with the industry experts.
Dr Williams joins the School of Civil and Building Engineering to support undergraduate teaching and help launch the new architecture degree. His appointment will also benefit the UK’s four RAEng Centres of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design.
Dr Goosey joins the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, where his significant experience of industry practice and appreciation of the challenges the sector faces will help ensure º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s engineering graduates have the skills and knowledge it demands.
He said: “Having worked as a researcher in the electronics industry for over forty years, I am delighted to have this opportunity to pass on some of my experience to the future generations of scientists and technologists that are beginning their career journeys at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
“I have been engaged with the University in various ways over the last 20 years, including working on collaborative R&D projects and co-directing the Innovative Electronics Manufacturing Research Centre. This exciting new appointment gives me the chance to continue my involvement with º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and to engage with the undergraduate community.”
