Are you interested in your health and how physical activity can affect it?
The aim of the study is to provide the information gained to help change peoples’ behaviour towards a more active and less sedentary lifestyle.
The study will involve two appointments over an estimated 21-25 day period. Both appointments will last approximately an hour and a half and will take place at the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine on the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ campus.
To take part, volunteers must be:
- Aged between 30 and 60 years old
- Right-handed
- Not diabetic
- Not in structured exercise training
- Not have any permanent metal items in your body (e.g. pacemaker)
The first appointment will require participants to fast overnight and to drink a glass of water at least one hour before the allocated laboratory session to help with acquiring a sample for a fingerprick blood test.
In between the two appointments, participants will be asked to wear three devices to measure their physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sugar levels.
For the second appointment, participants will be asked to view visual stimuli while their brain is scanned via fMRI.
Following the fMRI appointment, participants will be asked to wear the activity monitor and posture sensor for a 7 day period.
All participants will receive a comprehensive health report at their second appointment and will have the chance of winning an activity monitor (Fitbit).
All information collected from the study will be kept strictly confidential.
