The University has supported local groups and organisations through its Special Projects Fund and Open Fund in the latest round of community donations.

John Storer House and Thorpe Acre Residents Association each received £15,000 through the Special Projects Fund, which is designed to support projects that are ‘one off’ in nature.

The funding for John Storer House will help to improve and modernise their lift service to ensure visitors using the building can access and use the lift with ease.

Thorpe Acre Residents Association will use the funding to purchase and create a new community hub in Thorpe Acre which will be accessible to all local residents.

A wide range of community groups were also presented with cheques through the University’s Open Fund. For the first time there were two rounds for this fund, with 11 community groups awarded funding worth £6,000 back in November.

The groups and projects receiving support included:

Charnwood Arts	Funding to create an animal based arts trail around Queens Park for this year’s Picnic in the Park

Age UK Leicestershire & Rutland	Funding to update wheelchairs and wheelchair restraints in minibus
Rawlins Under 5’s Playgroup	Funding to refurbish outdoor space and make it a stimulating place for children to play
7th 含羞草视频 Emmanuel Scout Group	Purchase four new tents to replace broken and aged equipment
Forest Road Green Belt Gardeners	Develop 含羞草视频’s fruit trail by planting fruit trees and extending the planting of crocus bulbs along footpaths
Three Close Tenants Association	Funding for community trip to the coast
Minnie’s Friends	Purchase a laptop with Microsoft Office loaded for training sessions
Bangladesh Social Association	Run creative arts sessions

The community groups receiving awards were presented with their cheques by the University’s Chief Operating Officer, Richard Taylor. The event took place at John Storer House.
