Inspired by COP27? Here's some sustainable habits and tips to follow
While COP27 is not over yet, it has already prompted many of us to think about how our actions impact the planet and what positive changes we can make to reduce our carbon footprint.
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ experts are sharing their easy tips and tricks for making our homes more sustainable as part of a video series titled 'Sustainable Home'.
From food waste to fashion waste, to reducing energy use, and avoiding unnecessary plastics, the videos cover a wide range of topics and include academics and experts from across the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ campus.
The videos can be found below, as well as in the YouTube playlist:
"Currently, the textile industry uses a lot of water, chemicals, and energy to produce new clothing, as well as a lot of waste. This can be displaced by buying pre-owned or vintage clothing."
"The UK wastes 7 million tons of food at the household level each year, and that equates to about 22 million tons of carbon footprint. º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ 5 million tons of this food waste is avoidable."
"You wouldn't go out and buy single-use plastic bottles, or at least you would give it a second thought these days. The same should apply for your energy use. Even if you're not paying for it, you should still think about what you consume and how much you use."
"A lot of people don't realise that a lot of recycling is rejected because it's not clean and dry. Rinsing containers as soon as you've emptied them avoids the need for washing and will save time."
"Over a million plastic bottles are produced per minute worldwide, and these are transported around the world, creating a large impact in terms of their carbon footprint and the waste they produce."
The ‘º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Food Planner’ showcased in Dr Woolley's video was by Dr Rhoda Trimingham and the PR team and can download for free here.
