Dr Ghumra, an expert on sustainability challenges in the built environment, has held several senior roles at BRE, including Head of Responsible Sourcing and Director of BREEAM – the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for masterplanning projects, infrastructure and buildings.
He will be joining the University’s School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering – where he graduated from with a Doctorate in Engineering in 2012 – as Visiting Professor of ESG (environmental social governance) Performance and Strategy.
As Head of Building Performance Services at BRE Dr Ghumra is well connected to both industry and academia. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, a Chartered Environmentalist, a former board member and co-founder of the Supply Chain Sustainability School and also former chair of the Construction industry coalition on Modern Slavery.
Speaking about his appointment Professor Chris Goodier, Director of the EngD Centre for Innovative and Collaborative Construction Engineering in the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering, said: “As one of our most successful EngD graduates we are delighted that Shamir will be joining as a Visiting Professor within the School. BRE are one of our most important strategic partners and we have had many successful collaborative research projects with them. Shamir’s appointment will enable us to consolidate and grow this relationship in future years.”
Dr Ghumra added: “I am incredibly honoured to be recognised by my alma mater º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ in this way. I hope to be able to provide market and industry insight to the strategic direction of the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering. My role will focus on ESG Leadership & Strategy at a time when the sense of urgency and action has bever been greater. I would like to thank the staff in the School for nominating me.”
