Aldi UK agrees flagship sponsorship deal with º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ

Supermarket chain Aldi has become the official sponsor of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s Men’s Performance Football Team.

The 12-month contract will see the retailer sponsor a university side for the first time in their drive to seek top-quality candidates for their award-winning graduate programme.

The sponsorship deal will also help º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ students along their career journey, with workshops offering career advice set to be delivered on campus or virtually, due to the current circumstances.

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s football offering continues to go from strength-to-strength with existing partnerships in place with Liverpool, Chelsea and Derby County.

Football is also the largest participation sport on campus and since the 3,500 capacity University Stadium opened its doors in 2012, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s football offer continues to impress.

Alongside the strong Men’s side, Issy Martin was recently named as its new Women’s Football Head Coach - the first role of its kind at the University.

Professional clubs also regularly visit campus for training camps with reigning Scottish Premier League champions Celtic, using º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ as a pre-season base ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Jo Simpson, Commercial Director, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Sport said:

“To have a business on board of Aldi’s stature highlights the incredible global reputation we have at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ. The combination of academic ability and sporting success means our students are highly sought after.

“This partnership provides a fantastic opportunity for our students to build their graduate careers with an established brand. Aldi is a household name, and its graduate programme is a great platform for our students to build their experience beyond º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.”

Matthew Godbold, Area Manager at Aldi and a º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ alumnus, added:

“Aldi is currently working towards an ambitious growth target, aiming to operate 1,200 stores by 2025. We’re therefore constantly on the lookout for the brightest new talent to support us in our pursuit and take the business even further.

“I’m particularly proud to be returning to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and supporting the next generation of talent through their university journey, having studied there myself. Aldi is passionate about arming potential colleagues with the core skills required to help them secure graduate positions and ultimately launch their own careers.

“Sponsoring the Men’s Performance Football Team is a great way to do this, as the hard work and dedication the players put into being part of the team mirror the invaluable qualities that make a strong candidate for the Aldi Graduate Area Manager Programme. We wish the team a fantastic 2020/21 season and a successful career at the end of their studies.”

Aldi offers a competitive Graduate Area Manager Programme, with 100 new positions available across the country each graduate season. Aldi Area Managers are responsible for maintaining multiple stores and are involved in every aspect of the business, from people management and ensuring stores meet sales targets to implementing new initiatives.

Students must be on track for a 2:1 degree to apply and will start on a competitive salary and will receive a company car.

Aldi is Britain’s fifth-largest supermarket with 900 stores nationwide and has more than 36,000 employees. The business already has strong roots within elite level sport as the current official supermarket partner of Team GB.
