º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s first postgraduate facility to open this month
The redevelopment of the Angela Marmont building is now complete, transforming it into the University’s first ever dedicated postgraduate facility.
Located in the centre of campus, Graduate House will be the hub of Graduate School activities. It is an exclusive area dedicated to postgraduate research and taught students.
The project has been made possible thanks to donations totalling £40,000 from alumni, staff, students and friends of the University to the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Fund. Donations to this Fund are allocated where the need is greatest. It is distributed annually to initiatives that will have a significant impact on the campus environment, teaching and learning facilities, and activities available to enhance the student experience at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
Graduate House will allow postgraduate students to connect with other individuals from areas across campus fostering a wider sense of community within the postgraduate student body.
Professor Andrew Dainty, Director of the Graduate School said: “This significant investment by both the University and the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Development Trust will provide our postgraduate student community with devoted training facilities, study and social space. Graduate House will enable our students to interact in new ways, both through Graduate School programmes and via student-led activities, thereby helping foster interdisciplinary dialogue amongst our postgraduate taught and research populations.”
Sarah Brooke, Postgraduate Research Student President 2014-15, said: “Graduate House will be immensely useful as a focal point for the Graduate School, which has been a virtual entity up until now. I’m looking forward to seeing the facility becoming a hive of activity for postgraduate students and to be the place to go for anything postgrad-related."
The official opening will be on 23 September. All postgraduates and mature students are invited to attend the Graduate House-warming party on Friday 9 October, from 3pm, where food drink, music and games will be offered to celebrate the launch.
