º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Lightning sign England International Sasha Corbin
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Lightning have confirmed the signing of England international mid-court player Sasha Corbin for the forthcoming season.
Corbin, who is joining Lightning from Hertfordshire Mavericks where she was captain, has played for her country 53 times since making her debut against Malawi in 2008.
An experienced wing attack or centre, Corbin is the second England star to join Lightning in the space of a week, after Jade Clarke announced she’d be re-joining the side after a five year stint down under.
Corbin’s career highlights include winning gold at the World Series Fast Net Competition in 2011, defeating Australia 3-0 in the 2013 home series, as well as playing for Team England at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Having worked with Karen Atkinson for three years at Mavericks, Corbin is excited to be linking up with the now Lightning Head Coach once more.
"I’m very excited to be joining º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Lightning this season and also delighted to be working with Karen Atkinson again. I've worked with her in the past and I think she's a fantastic coach.
“It’s a very exciting time for Lightning with their current squad signings in Peace Proscovia, Jo Trip and Jade Clarke. To be able to train week in week out with these athletes will be fantastic. I really enjoy playing for England with Jade, I think she's an incredible athlete, she has so much experience behind her internationally and she's a true leader.
"Personally it has been a challenging few months in my netball career and I think it’s time for me to make a change. This is a completely personal decision and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the Hertfordshire Mavericks franchise. Having captained the side for the last few years it is by far one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make within my netball career so far."
On her latest summer signing, Atkinson commented:
“I’m thrilled that Sasha will be playing for º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Lightning this season. I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching her in the past and I know she will bring the intensity, professionalism and high standards we are continuing to strive for here at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
She is an exceptionally talented player and I hope that not only will she add value to the performances of the squad, but that Olivia (Murphy) and I can have a positive impact on her game as well.”
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Lightning tickets for the forthcoming Vitality Netball Superleague season are now on sale here. After earlybird season tickets sold out within a week of going on sale, we have released an extra 50 today as the final allocation for 2016.
