A programme of engagement work with young people across º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is set to expand thanks to a donation of £6,000 from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.

The funds have been awarded from the University’s Strategic Fund which is part of its overall Community Donations Fund programme. The support follows discussions between the University and Charnwood Borough Council about community priorities within Charnwood.

This year, a total of £10,000 has been awarded to a wide range of community groups local to the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ area. This contribution will allow help with youth development work within º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ to progress. More specifically, community interest company Go-Getta are working with targeted groups from the Shelthorpe estate to promote positive behaviour and prevent future anti-social behaviour from occurring.

The funding will help them to continue this work and also cover costs to ensure young people can remain engaged in sports activities, team games and arts and crafts across the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ West area.

Three other community groups have also been awarded funding from the University. The Marios Tinenti Centre, based in the Peel Drive area of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ were awarded £500 from the fund. They will put the money towards a community event.

Also given £500 were the Altogether Place group from the Warwick Way area of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ who will use the funds for a community event as well.

The Ashby Road Estates Community Association was awarded £2,000 as a contribution to their refurbishment project.

Stakeholders Relations Manager, Alison Barlow, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting these community groups and hope the financial support will help organisations to keep running and improving their fantastic projects. For us, the Strategic Fund is a hugely important community donation because it identifies groups who tackle serious issues on a daily basis and allows us to provide the support they need.”
