University presented with Seventh Queen’s Anniversary Prize

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ has today (27 February) been presented with a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education by Her Majesty The Queen at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. It is the seventh time the award has been bestowed on º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ – an achievement bettered only by the University of Oxford.

This latest award recognises º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s impact through research and skills development in High Value Manufacturing (HVM) to create economic growth. º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is an acknowledged leader in the field of HVM. Its renowned Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering makes an important contribution to the health of manufacturing in the UK, helping to support economic growth and create new jobs.

Over 500 national and international organisations work in partnership with the University on projects and ideas that enable the rapid development of better products, translating cutting-edge research into practical benefit.

Through its academic degree programmes and professional short courses, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ also supplies industry with highly qualified and skilled engineers, who are crucial to the continued growth of HVM.

The official presentation was made to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Robert Allison.

“It was a great honour to be presented with this very prestigious award, which acknowledges º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s sustained contribution to High Value Manufacturing through our pioneering research and innovation and high-quality teaching,” said Professor Allison.

    –         Its outstanding and widely-respected work in evaluating and helping develop social policy-related programmes (2005)
    –         The University’s position as the country’s premier institution for sports development, and its world leading role in sports research and education (2002)
    –         The Optical Engineering Group’s pioneering role in developing applications of modern optics and laser technologies to find practical solutions to real-world problems (2000)
    –         The Institute of Development Engineering’s unique service to developing countries, providing and managing sustainable infrastructure (1998)
    –         Its partnerships with the aerospace industry, particularly Rolls-Royce and BAE Systems (1994)

    In 2015 the University will open an additional academic campus in London’s new innovation quarter. º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ in London, based on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, will offer postgraduate and executive-level education, as well as research and enterprise opportunities.
