Plethora of prizes for School of the Arts students
Students from the School of the Arts are celebrating after dominating one of the categories in the annual Bradford Textile Society Design Competition.
The students picked up not only the three top prizes but also three of the four commendations in the ‘Clothworker’s Foundation Award, for a Woven Fabric for Mens or Womenswear, including accessories’.
Kelly Salter won the first prize, which earned her £400, followed by Lauren Hart (£250) and Charlotte Watson (£150).
Receiving commendations were Emily Daniels, Josey Olley and Alice Thompson.
School of the Arts students won two other categories and, in total, picked up six prizes and 12 commendations.
Linnea Duckworth won the first prize of £250 in the ‘The Holland and Sherry Award, a Woven Fabric in any Fibre or Blend’, which is for first year students only.
There were also commendations for Amy Bannister, Rose Moorman and Bethany Willett.
Sophie Painter won the first prize of £300 in the ‘Prestigious Textiles Award, for a Printed Interiors textile design for the Domestic Market’. Sophie also won a commendation.
Nicola Adams won the third prize of £150 in the ‘Clothworkers’ Foundation Award, for a Woven Fabric for Interiors’, and Rachel O’Sullivan was commended.
Two students, Sally Bryson and Sarah Roberts, were commended in the ‘Worshipful Company of Dyers Award, a Printed Fashion Textile Design on any base Fabric’.
Ruth Hepburn was commended in two categories - the ‘Woolmark Company Award, a woven or knitted fabric for apparel'; and the ‘Clothworkers’ Foundation Award, for an innovative combination of textile processes for the Fashion Market’.
Shakera Tayub was commended in the ‘Clothworkers’ Foundation Award, for an innovative combination of textiles processes for the Interiors Market’.
The students will receive their prizes at the award ceremony at Salts Mill art gallery in Saltaire, Bradford on May 13, when the winners of six other awards will be announced.

“The design talent of our students clearly impressed the judges. º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is consistently recognised by the Bradford Textile Society and will stand the students in good stead as they develop their future careers. We very much hope our students will achieve further success at the prize giving ceremony.”
