University to host country’s largest graduate recruitment fair

More than 180 organisations are aiming to recruit º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ students next week when the University hosts the country’s largest campus-based graduate careers fair.

Students will have the opportunity to network with some of the UK’s leading employers including GE, Microsoft, Caterpillar, Apple, Marks & Spencer and Tesco at the Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair on Tuesday 22 October.

Companies will be promoting opportunities for placements, internships and graduate programmes to more than 6,000 º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ students who are expected to attend.

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ employer engagement manager Louise Donaghy, who is organising the event said:

“The Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair is an invaluable opportunity for º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ students to network with the country’s top employers, find out more about opportunities available to them, and speak to recent graduates or students currently working for the company.

“This number of employers attending our careers fair year-on-year is a real testament to the employability of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s students and graduates.”

Final year Accounting and Financial Management student Chris Nelson attended the University’s careers fair in 2011 and was subsequently offered a placement then job with accountancy firm EY. He said:

“The careers fair is a vital tool for any student searching for a placement or graduate opportunity. Attending the fair allowed me to talk to employers I was interested in, get a feel for the company and ask recent graduates specific questions that ultimately helped me during the application process.

“As a result I was able to secure a placement and subsequent graduate job from EY and I have no doubt that the conversations and information I gained at the fair helped immensely.’

Tom Lyas is a graduate recruitment manager at Tesco, who are sponsoring the careers fair. He said:

“Tesco are delighted to sponsor the 2013 º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair. There has never been such a wide range of graduate and placement opportunities available and it is essential that students and employers have an event that showcases these.

“We work closely with º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ as we know we are engaging with exceptionally high calibre candidates who have the potential to grasp these opportunities and become the next generation of business leaders in Tesco's exciting multi-channel global business.

“We are proud to be actively supporting one of the best run, best attended university career fairs in the UK.”

The Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair takes place at the University’s Sir David Wallace Sports Hall and James France Exhibition Centre on Tuesday 22 October from 11am to 4pm. Visit the event website for a full list of exhibitors and for more information.
