º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ student selected for Global Startup Youth conference

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ student Peter Bailey has been selected from over 1,500 applicants to attend the Global Startup Youth conference in Malaysia.

The three day event in Kuala Lumpur – part of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit – brings together 500 delegates, aged 18-25 years, from across the world to explore pressing social issues whilst developing their business and entrepreneurial skills.

Working in teams – and supported by leading figures from the startup community – they will develop business ideas addressing problems around education, the environment, health, and women’s empowerment. The task will conclude with the opportunity for teams to pitch to investors to secure funding to develop and commercialise their venture.

Having won his place at the conference, Peter is also invited to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit – now in its fourth year. An invaluable networking opportunity, it will also provide him with the chance to encounter a number of influential people including US Secretary of State John Kerry, Prof Chan Kim (author of Blue Ocean Strategy), Richard Barton (founder of Expedia), Don Tapscott (author of Wikinomics), and Joel Barker (author of Future Edge and Five Regions of the Future).

Peter said: “I am very much looking forward to meeting people from so many cultural backgrounds, and developing a deeper understanding of how to operate in such a diverse business scenario. I feel the event will give me an opportunity to really test my leadership skills and encourage me to think outside the box to try and tackle some of the world’s biggest issues.”

Peter is no stranger to overcoming challenges and has a wide experience in business and enterprise, having held a variety of posts including º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Students’ Union Enterprise Intern and President of Enactus. He is also a co-founder of South Africa Challenge UK.
