Champions º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ selected to host BUCS national finals in 2015
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Students have won the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) overall trophy for the 33rd successive year.
Athletic Union President Lewis Timms collected the trophy at the awards dinner, held at Heriot-Watt University, from Olympic rowing gold medallist Ben Hunt-Davis and BUCS President and broadcaster John Inverdale.
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ won the overall title with 5,449 points, over 2,000 points ahead of second placed Durham and Birmingham who finished third.
Prior to the awards dinner it was announced that º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ will host the BUCS Big Wednesday and Trophy Tuesday in 2015.
The event will see a proposed twelve BUCS sport championship finals taking place on campus in March 2015.
Peter Keen, Director of Sport at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ said:
“I am delighted that º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ has been selected to host the 2015 BUCS Big Wednesday. We have been great supporters of BUCS’ competitions and enjoyed some memorable occasions throughout the years.
“But just as significant is that at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ we just get sport - and that we play, compete and train on such an extraordinary scale. As such I believe that it is fitting that our energy and passion for sport has been rewarded by this announcement.
“I look forward to inviting other Universities and College to our campus to compete in the most prestigious fixture in the student sport calendar.”
Big Wednesday competitors will be able to sample the superb sporting facilities on campus including the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Stadium which hosted the BUCS men’s football final this year.
Lewis Timms, President for the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Students’ Athletic Union said:
“Being announced as the hosts for the BUCS BIG Wednesday in 2015 is an absolute honour. It is a fantastic way for º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ to showcase its unprecedented sport facilities and also a prime opportunity for our students to hopefully compete in the Trophy and Championship finals on home turf.
“I know that the students of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ will get behind all the teams competing and there will most definitely be a buzz around campus. I will 100% be back to come cheer on the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Students’ teams and will be wearing my purple with pride”

BUCS Big Wednesday 2015 will take place on Wednesday 25 March 2015 at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s campus, supported by BUCS Trophy Tuesday on 24 March.
