Students rate º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ highly in National Student Survey
Eighty eight per cent of final year students at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ say they are satisfied overall with their course, according to the latest National Student Survey (NSS), which was published on 13 August 2013.
This compares to a national average of 85%.
In the individual subject areas, five of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s subjects were ranked in the top five in the UK – Social Policy, Publishing, Accounting, Information Services, and Physical Geography and Environmental Science. In total fifteen subjects were ranked in the top fifteen for overall satisfaction.
The Survey, which has been conducted annually for the past nine years, asks students to rate eight different areas:
- The teaching on their course
- Assessment and feedback
- Academic support
- Organisation and management
- Learning resources
- Personal development
- Overall satisfaction, and
- Students’ Union
Of the results, Professor Morag Bell, Pro Vice Chancellor for Teaching at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, said: "We are delighted that º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ's overall results confirm our excellent record for quality in teaching and learning, and that students from many of our subject areas rate their courses so highly.
“These results reflect our excellent record for quality in teaching and learning and our commitment to the overall student experience. We value highly the feedback that our students give us and are working closely with the Students’ Union and student representatives to ensure that the outcomes of the NSS are acted on appropriately.”
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ students rated the Students’ Union particularly highly, with 88%, compared to the national average of 67%, saying they were satisfied.
The Students’ Union plays a central role in the student experience at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, providing a range of opportunities that support students with their academic lives as well as their personal development.
Josh Hurrell, President of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Students’ Union, is delighted that the Union is rated so highly in the latest NSS.
He said: “º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is committed to delivering a first class education to all its students. Working alongside the University, the Students’ Union is continually enhancing the opportunities it offers that ensure that students at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ are able to benefit from one of the country’s best all-round experiences.”
The results of the survey, conducted by Ipsos MORI, provide valuable information for prospective students, and help universities and colleges to improve further the education they provide.
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ’s response rate was 74.3%, almost six percentage points higher than the national average of 68.6%.
