Record-breaking º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ graduate celebrates success

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ graduate, Becky White, has bounced her way into the Guinness Book of World Records.

As part of the celebrations to mark the Olympic Torch’s journey through the University campus last summer, Becky – founder of onesixeight:fitness – masterminded an attempt on the world record for the most people bouncing simultaneously on mini trampolines.

On 3 July 2012, 302 University staff and students joined Becky to bounce for six minutes – and are now world record holders.

Becky says: “I am so proud that we set a world record. It was a fun event to manage and I was really pleased that so many people came along to take part. The sight of more than 300 people bouncing in the centre of campus was amazing. A big thank you – and congratulations – to everyone!”

Becky has much to be proud of.

By the start of the London 2012 Olympics, she had exceeded the target she had set herself two years earlier – when launching onesixeitght:fitness – of helping over 10,000 people improve their health and well-being through exercise and healthy eating.

Her success was recognised in November 2012, when onesixeight:fitness was named Small Business of the Year by Oak FM’s Pride of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Awards sponsored by East Midlands Airport in 2012.

Becky is also one of eight º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ graduates to feature in a multimedia campaign, celebrating graduate enterprise. These Inspiring Graduates have all established thriving businesses despite the continued economic downturn.

Her hard work and achievements have also secured her a place amongst the finalists of the University’s annual Enterprise Awards – the winners of which will be announced on 24 April.

Professor Steve Rothberg, Pro Vice Chancellor for Enterprise at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ says: “We are very proud of all our graduate entrepreneurs and delighted for Becky on securing a place in the Guinness Book of Records. We watch her progress eagerly and wish her every success for the future.”
