Get involved
Student life is about much more than just gaining a degree. We want you to get the most out of your time in the UK, which is why we offer countless opportunities to help you do just that.
Volunteering opportunities
Action is the volunteering section of the Students' Union, and is a great way to develop your skills and experiences. With projects such as cooking in a soup kitchen and volunteering in a care home, it is also an excellent way to become part of the local community. If you fancy taking part in some of our most challenging and rewarding projects, then RAG is the section for you. RAG is dedicated to raising as much money for charity as possible, and gives you the chance to get involved in once in a lifetime opportunities, such as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, skydiving, or even dog sledging in the Arctic.
Fancy a game?
Regardless of ability, there is an opportunity for everybody to get involved in sport at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ. My Lifestyle is a free recreational sporting programme where you can try new sports without being too competitive. The programme offers a vast range of sports, including tennis, football, volleyball and boxing. If you're looking for something a little more competitive, you can compete for your hall of residence in IMS. There are over 40 sports you can get involved in, and it's a great way to meet people in your hall. Similarly, you can also compete for your department in weekly leagues and one-day events. For students who wish to dedicate a significant amount of time to sport, our Athletic Union offers over 50 competitive sports clubs.
If you can, live in halls
Living in one of our halls of residence will give you lots of opportunities to meet new people. During freshers' week each hall puts on various social events to help you settle in. There will also be lots of events throughout the year, such as balls, dinners and BBQs. If you're not living in halls of residence, you can still join in by affiliating with a hall.
Join one of over 150 societies
At º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ we offer over 150 societies, ranging from sports clubs and music groups, to charity organisations and political groups. Societies are run by students who organise events and activities throughout the year, making them a great way to meet like-minded people. There are also a number of cultural, nation and faith societies to get involved with whilst studying here. There are cultural societies from all over the world, as well as spiritual societies where you will be warmly welcomed, regardless of your faith.
