Winner: Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Combustion System Aerothermal Processes
This nomination is made on behalf of the UTC research team to recognise the incredible achievement in delivering the National Centre for Combustion and Aerothermal Technology (NCCAT), a multi-million-pound project supported by government and industry which leads UK R&D of future low emission aero gas turbine combustion technologies to enable new capabilities for sustainable flight, reducing aviation’s reliance on traditional fuels.
With Rolls-Royce as lead partner, the Centre will retain technology, infrastructure and innovation within the UK which will provide significant benefits in the future to the University, Rolls-Royce and to other UK industrial partners.

Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles Team
The UAV team holds an international reputation for work with development of autonomous control system technologies to provide real world benefit. This includes intelligent mobility, control, safety and applications of these technologies across a wide range of fields. Examples include collaboration projects with Chinese partners on precision agriculture which aims to improve the productivity and sustainability of agriculture, so as to tackle the global challenge in food security. Put simply, this involves remote sensing and drone intervention for precision agriculture which results in better crop yields using fewer resources and pesticides.
The Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour (CLiMB)
The overall aim of the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour (CLiMB) is to help the public to live long, healthy and happy lives. CLiMB involves world leading academics, researchers and health professionals who are working together to provide high quality evidence to reduce preventable diseases in the population, and impact public health. CLiMB works with over 30 national and international partners to produce excellent health science research.
