º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ student wins design competition
A º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Design School student has recently been crowned winner of the British Promotional Merchandise Association’s Student Design Competition 2017.
George Hill took first place in the competition, after his Cat Selfie product won over the judging panel at a pitch presentation in London.
The BPMA competition gives up-and-coming designers the chance to create a new promotional item for an existing company.
The growing internet craze of cat videos was the inspiration for George’s product. The item promotes Whiskas cat food and has the potential to be used as an on-pack promotional gift.
The novel accessory sits on top of a mobile phone. It has a small bell that rings with a gentle shake of the device, attracting your cat’s attention and thereby creating the perfect selfie opportunity as the pet looks directly at the camera.
The judges praised the product’s technological relevance and easy to use design, saying it had idea appeal for people globally, and of any age.
Speaking of his involvement in the competition, George said:
“The BPMA competition was a great experience, it gave me a chance to practise my presentation skills and get valuable feedback on my project from people working in the industry.”
As winner of the first prize, George received £600. George and his product have been featured in Product Media Magazine. Coverage in Design Week Magazine is expected in the near future too.
