º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ this event

Join arts worker Gussi Philippou for a fun and relaxing mark-making session.

During the session, Gussi will help you explore flow theory through drawing and stitching, with guided mark-making using ink, acrylic, charcoal, and various tools. There will also be the opportunity to work with embroidery. At the session, you will benefit from the calming effects of steady focus and working with the hand.

This workshop is part of a collaboration between º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Wellbeing Centre, providing events in the town centre for students who do not live on campus.

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ the workshop leader: Gussi Phillipou

Gussi trained in multi-media textiles at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, specialising in print with embroidery. Following this she spent time working as a knitted accessories designer for a fashion supplier for a few years. In 2017, Gussi decided to undertake an MA, where she focused on using textiles as a trigger for reminiscence and emotional memory. Gussi ran workshops for people living with Dementia, to examine the effect textiles processes could have, which she translated into visual textiles samples that embodied my research. Currently, Gussi is completing a PhD at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, as well as working as a freelance embroidery designer for Alexander McQueen, a visiting university tutor.

Her personal research explores using textiles techniques as an intervention for participants living with dementia. Research will measure the potential of participatory textiles-based workshops to improve cognition, psychosocial well-being, behaviour, and quality of life in the people participating in the workshops.
