Opportunity Scholars at an event

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Opportunity Scholarships at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ are offered to students from low socioeconomic backgrounds and areas of the UK where there is a low uptake in higher education.

This year we welcome a further 50 scholars to our programme as they begin their studies at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ. They join more than 100 Opportunity Scholars who are continuing their studies into second and final years.

It is thanks to the support of individuals, groups of alumni and organisations, that we can award our scholars with £3,000 per year for three years of study.

Our newest cohort began their studies with us in earlier this month and 94% of these new scholars are from households with an income of less than £18,000 per year.

The new scholars will study across a range of subject areas including arts, business, humanities and STEM.

The support provided to the students as part of this programme can have a real impact on their student experience, enabling them to get involved with more activities, focus on studies, and worry less about their financial situation. It provides them with peace of mind and the chance to enjoy university life to the full.

The scholarships have a huge impact on the student recipients. One of our current scholars, Bethany, said:

“The scholarship has allowed me to go through university without constantly having the stress of money weighing down on my shoulders and has instead allowed me to focus more on my studies. It has also been a huge motivator for me.”

As well as donations of £3,000 per year or more from individuals and organisations, last year we asked all alumni and friends to give whatever they could to support Opportunity Scholarships at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.

With thanks to over 100 donors, we welcome Phoenix who is supported by the generosity of so many members of the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ family who contributed gifts to the sum of more than £9,000. She is studying Psychology at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.

Phoenix is so grateful for her scholarship:

"I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who donated to the campaign to support my scholarship. This scholarship allows me to focus on getting the most out of my academic experience here at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, which I would be otherwise unable to do. I am excited to make the most out of this opportunity throughout my studies!"

We can’t wait to share her progress with you over the next few years. By giving together, you have all made a difference to Phoenix’s º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ experience.

Thank you to everyone who kindly donates to Opportunity Scholarships.
