Automotive Engineering Part C
Automotive Engineering combined Georgia’s love of racing and interest in design. She discusses why º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ was the right choice for her and gives advice to women interested in pursuing a career in engineering.
"I have always been quite a curious and inquisitive person, wanting to know how and why everything works and thinking of ways to improve design. That, coupled with my passion for motorsport, led me to study Automotive Engineering at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
I am part of the Aerodynamics department in the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Formula Student Team. Being a part of the team has allowed me to further develop my CAD and CFD skills as well as being able to gain some practical experience.
º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ offers careers advice and guidance, as well as providing online resources through the Careers Network website. These resources have allowed me to develop professionally and have helped prepare me for interviews and assessment centres.
I believe it is important to celebrate the exceptional work carried out by women in engineering which has often gone unrecognised. There are many women in engineering who inspire me, especially Beatrice Shilling and Claudia Parsons. They inspire me because, despite the industry being dominated by males, they have persisted to achieve their goals and follow their career aspirations.
If you are thinking about a career in engineering my advice would be to explore all the different branches of engineering, such as mechanical, chemical and electrical, to see which appeals to you most."
